Static electricity occurs when materials move, rub against or separate from each other. This takes place particularly in dry conditions when charges that have accumulated can’t find a conducting path to earth. The clean and dry conditions in a spray booth generate the perfect environment for static electricity to build up in large quantities.

All atoms contain a positive and negative ions which manifest themselves (invisibly) in the form of positive ions, negative ions and neutral molecules. When two surfaces come together (for instance during the tacking process) surface electrons are shared, leaving behind ‘patches’ of positive and negative static charges.

The job of Stat-Gun is to neutralise the surface before each stage of paint application.

This simple, hand-held cordless device blows ionised air onto the surface area of each panel prior to painting. The ionisation is created by tungsten emitters which create the neutralising charge. Watch the video to learn more.

If it doesn’t have the original Stat-Gun logo and hasn’t been supplied by us, then we’d advise you to be wary of its safety and compliance. All Stat-Gun products are made to the highest standards, using premium materials and componentry to ensure optimum compliance and performance integrity.

If you see a cheaper alternative, check the documentation. Static electrical build up in combustible spray booth environments is a potentially dangerous issue, so any product that compromises the safety of your workplace or your employees needs to be purchased with caution.

Static doesn’t generate on its own; it requires specific conditions to form. Therefore, there isn’t a precise timeframe for static to return. It depends on factors such as contact, painting, heat, or air pressure. To prevent static buildup, use the Stat-Gun right before applying each and every material.

The Stat-Gun doesn’t have a fan like a traditional spray gun. Instead, it uses a jet of air to quickly and efficiently deliver ionization to the surface. As soon as the air jet hits the surface, it spreads across a wide area. Use the Stat-Gun like you would a spray gun for ample coverage, holding it at the same distance. If you need less pressure on a delicate surface, simply hold the unit further away.

There isn’t a specific “ideal” air pressure for the Stat-Gun, as we don’t want painters to constantly adjust between the stat-gun and spray gun. Use enough pressure to achieve a “scrubbing” action to remove contaminants and effectively distribute ionisation. Adjust as needed based on your surface requirements.

A fully charged battery will provide approximately 8-10 hours of continuous ionization. You shouldn’t need to recharge during a single day of use if the batteries are properly maintained. We recommend charging the Stat-Gun or Pro Stat-Gun overnight 2-3 times a week with moderate usage.

The Stat-Gun has four LED indicators on the top:

  • Red LED: Lights up when the gun is charging.

  • Orange LED: Lights up when the trigger is pulled and the gun is ionizing.

  • Green LED: Lights up when the batteries are fully charged.

  • Clear LED: Can be ignored.

The Pro Stat-Gun has two LED indicators at the back next to the charging port:

  • Left LED: Lights up solid RED when the gun is connected and charging.

  • Left LED : Blinks GREEN when connected and fully charged.

  • Right LED: Solid Yellow light when trigger is pulled to indicate ionising.
